Stylurus flavipes
River Clubtail
Asiatische Keiljungfer
Subspecies
The Asian taxon ubadschii (=lineatus) is often treated as a subpecies of the present species. However, I adopt here the notion by Dijkstra and Lewington (2006) that ubadschii is a separate species, especially because the taxa show differences in genital morphology. Dijkstra and Lewington (2006) still place ubadschii in Gomphus, but based on the study by Ware et al. 2017 (see also next chapter), the correct combination is Stylurus ubadschii.
Synonyms
Gomphus flavipes (De Charpentier, 1825)
Stylurus flavipes (De Charpentier, 1825)

The morphological characters of the present species are quite different from typical Gomphus species and therefore several authors have previously placed this species in the genus Stylurus, but this has not been generally accepted. However, in a recent study by Ware et al. (2017) there is now also strong support from molecular phylogenetics that the taxon flavipes is not a member of Gomphus, but is placed in Stylurus with significant statistical support. Therefore I adopt here the combination proposed by Ware et al. (2017).

Additional English name: Yellow-legged Clubtail.
