Biology
Many species in the genus Hyles are genetically very similar and are known to produce viable and fertile hybrids. The present species is known to hybridize with Hyles vespertilio and Hyles hippophaes. It also hybridizes with Hyles siehei (Turkey) and Hyles centralasiae (Central Asia), but in these cases often genetic incompatibilities occur leading to larval lethality or problems with eclosion and wing inflation after eclosion (De Freina and Geck 2014).
