Some authors regard this species as a subspecies of Ephestia parasitella Staudinger, 1859 (from North Africa and the Iberian Peninsula). The range of Ephestia parasitella and Ephestia unicolorella abut in Spain and form a hybrid zone (e.g. in Cuevas de Vinroma) (Roesler, 1973).

 

Distribution
Europe (except the north) and western Asia. In Germany recorded from Niedersachsen, Rheinland-Pfalz, and Saarland.
