Note: the original description of this taxon is problematic. Büttner (1880) writes "3. Plagiodactylus an n. sp. Pneumonanthes Schl.?" (translation: "3. Plagiodactylus or rather the new species Pneumonanthes Schl.[eich]?"). Thus, he does not unequivocally describe the taxon as new, but gives the name "Pneumonanthes" only on condition that the taxon is not "Plagiodactylus". Conditionally proposed names are usually not available (Article 11.5.). Exceptions are made for names published before 1961 if they have been published in a tentative combination with a genus name (Article 11.9.3.6.; Article 51.3.3.; Article 11.9.3.4.). These exceptions do not apply to the present case, and therefore the name "Pneumonanthes" is technically not available. I do not take any nomenclatural actions here, but the case should be nomenclaturally solved in the future.
In addition, the authorship is unclear. The author of the paper is Büttner, but the title gives Hering and Schleich as "contributors". Thus, it could be argued that they also qualify as authors of certain data in the paper, and the addition of "Schl." to the first mentioning of "Pneumonanthes" could be interpreted as the definition of the authorship of only Schleich, and not Büttner or Hering. If this interpretation is accepted, then the correct authorship of the name (if it is available at all, see above) would be: Schleich (in Büttner), 1880 (p. 472).
