Some authors synonymize this taxon erroneously with Stenoptilia bipunctidactyla.

The specific epithet is often given as either "plagiodactyla" or "plagiodactylus". Species epithets ending on "-dactylus/a/um" have been introduced by Linnaeus (1758) who used them as adjectives (see my comments under Pterophorus pentadactylus). This adjectival use has been maintained by all classical authors, and therefore I reject the notion that these epithets are nouns in apposition. The correct valid name of the present species is therefore Stenoptilia plagiodactyla.
