Hübner described this species as Alucita acanthadactyla, but later emended the original spelling himself to Alucita acanthodactyla. According to the rules of the International Code he can be interpreted as the First Reviewer. This has already been noted by Hannemann (1977). However, most authors prefer to accept the original spelling as the valid name
(e.g. Gaedike and Heinicke (1999); Gielis (1995)). I agree with this notion, because subsequent emendations should be accepted as justified only in absolutely necessary cases (e.g. clear typographical or grammatical errors) in order to ensure nomenclatural stability.

Identification

In Germany the species is recorded from the following Länder:
Niedersachsen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Hessen, and Bayern. Only older records from before 1980 exist for Schleswig-Holstein, Baden-Württemberg, Saarland, Sachsen, and Sachsen-Anhalt. Recods from before 1900 exist for Brandenburg and Thüringen (Gaedike and Heinicke (1999)).
