Identification

Distribution
This species occurs in North Africa, southern Portugal, Spain and France. There is a single report of this species from Germany (near Isny at the southernmost border of Baden-Württemberg). Most authors regard this report as a misidentification of another Copper species (e.g. Lycaena phlaeas). The male of Tomares ballus might also be confused with Callophrys rubi, because of the green underside of the hind wings. Because of the southern location of the find it is at least not entirely impossible that the specimen was really a stray Tomares ballus from the easternmost border of its occurrence in southern France.
