Glyphipterix equitella

< Previous    |    Next >

Subspecies
No subspecies are recognized. Other authors recognize up to three subspecies: equitella, minorella, crassilunella. However, these forms differ in the morphology of the male genitalia, and equitella and minorella have greatly overlapping (sympatric) ranges. Thus, these three taxa should be regarded as separate species. Only two of these species occur in Germany: the present species and Glyphipterix minorella. Glyphipterix crassilunella is endemic to the Greek island of Crete. The other records of crassilunella from Sardinia and from the Canary Islands very likely refer to other species (e.g. Glyphipterix umbilici from the Canary islands may easily be confused with Glyphipterix crassilunella).
