Nematopogon metaxellus

< Previous    |    Next >

Subspecies
No subspecies are recognized.

Synonyms
Tinea metaxella Huebner, 1813
Nemophora metaxella (Huebner, 1813)
Nematopogon metaxella (Huebner, 1813)
Nematopogon metaxellus (Huebner, 1813)

For a discussion of the "-ellus, -ella, -ellum" endings, please see Nematopogon pilellus. The species epithet is probably formed from the greek word "metaxa" for "silk trader", by adding the formula-like "-ella" ending.
Nematopogon is of masculine gender (pogon = greek "beard" m.), thus the formula-like species epithets should be adjusted to the "-ellus" form.
