Neochrysocharis albiscapus

Subspecies

Original description

Synonyms
Neochrysocharis albiscapus Erdös, 1954
Achrysocharella albiscapus (Erdös, 1954)
Chrysonotomyia albiscapus (Erdös, 1954)
Closterocerus albiscapus (Erdös, 1954)
Neochrysocharis rezniki Ryabtschinsky, 1983
Neochrysocharis badghysi Ryabtschinsky, 1983

Note: this species is not identical to the nominal Elachestus albiscapus described by Nees (1834) on p. 139. The identity of this Elachestus albiscapus is, to the best of my knowledge, unclear, but Nee´s concept of Elachestus also includes the genus Neochrysocharis as it is currently defined. Thus, if Elachestus albiscapus Nees, 1834 can be identified in the future and should turn out to be a valid name in Neochrysocharis, then the name of the present species would fall as a junior secondary homonym.

Note: Gumovsky (2001) has synonymized the genus Neochrysocharis with Closterocerus and has transferred all Neochrysocharis species to Closterocerus. It is true that the two genera are closely related, and the synonymy might be justified. However, the paper by Gumovsky (2001) presents an incomplete and preliminary analysis of the head structure of these animals and the conclusions are not well supported by data. Therefore, I do not adopt the synonymy of Neochrysocharis with Closterocerus. A comprehensive phylogenetic analysis is needed to clarify the interrelationships (and possible synonymies) of the Entedoninae genera.
