Agathis semiaciculata

Subspecies
The differences between Agathis semiaciculata and Agathis mongolica are subtle and thus, both taxa could be considered subspecies of the same species. However, I accept the view of Simbolotti and van Achterberg (1999) who regard Agathis mongolica as a separate bona species.

Original description

Synonyms
Agathis semiaciculata Ivanov, 1899
Agathis striolata Shestakov, 1928
Agathis striola auct. (a misspelling)
Agathis mongolica Nixon, 1986 nec Tobias, 1961 (a misidentification)

Agathis propinqua has been synonymized with Agathis semiaciculata, but the revision of the remains of the holotype showed that Agathis propinqua is not identical with Agathis semiaciculata, but with Agathis assimilis (Simbolotti and van Achterberg 1999).

Identification

Distribution
Recorded from Bulgaria, the Caucasus and adjacent Asia, Switzerland, Germany. Note: the species is not listed by Belokobylskij and Taeger (in Dathe et al. 2001). The closely related Agathis mongolica has been recorded from Andorra, Italy, Mongolia, Poland, and from Austria, but not yet from Germany. Because both species are so similar, misidentifications are likely and the exact distribution of both species is unclear.
