Globiceps fulvicollis

< Previous    |    Next >

Subspecies
No subspecies are recognized. Some authors regard the taxon cruciatus as a subspecies, or even as a separate species. However, no clear differences (except for the color) exist between the forms, and therefore most authors currently regard these two forms as color variants of the same species; I follow this notion here and list the name as a synonym (see below).

The status of Globiceps horvathi Reuter, 1912 (not recorded from Germany) is unclear. It is usually regarded as a separate species, but some authors list it as a subspecies or even only a synonym of the present species. In addition, the status of Globiceps obscuripes Lindberg, 1940 (not recorded from Germany) is debated. It has been described as a separate species, but some authors suggest that it may be only a subspecies of the present species. The status of both taxa needs revision; I provisionally retain species status for both taxa and do not list them here as either subspecies or synonyms.
