Note: Initially, specimens of this species had been misidentified
by Hahn (1834) as Merocoris dentator (now Loxocnemis dentator, a species not recorded from Germany). Herrich-Schaeffer (1835) discovered this misidentification and coined the new name Coreus annulipes for the misidentified specimens. Unfortunately, in the same year Burmeister (1835) again misidentified specimens of the present species, but this time as Coreus denticulatus Scopoli, 1763 (now Coriomeris denticulatus) and Herrich-Schaeffer (1840) thus erroneously synonymized his Coreus annulipes with Coreus denticulatus. Costa (1847) discovered this error and revived the name by Herrich-Schaeffer as "Merocoris annulipes". Many authors erroneously have interpreted this reviving as a new species description and therefore the name of this species is often incorrectly credited to Costa.
