Identification
A small species, between 1.2 to 2 mm long. The
species is usually brachypterous, but sometimes
fully winged specimens occur. Reportedly, these
macropterous individuals are exclusively females.
Distribution
Northern and Central Europe and east to central
Asia. In Germany the species appears to be rare
and is mainly reported from a few localities in the
north and north-east; a single find is reported from Bayern. Some authors suggest that
the species is often overlooked and therefore the
few reports do not mirror the true range of the
species.
Biology
The
species overwinters in the egg, the larvae hatch
in the spring and the adults can be found from
July to September. The animals require moist
habitats with acidic soil, and have been
reported from marshes, bogs, pond shores, heath
and coniferous forests, where they live in leaf
litter or moss.
