No subspecies are recognized.

Original description

Diazosma hirtipennis (Siebke, 1863)

Diazosma hirtipenne (Siebke, 1863)
Trichoptera picea Strobl, 1880
Diazosma piceum (Strobl, 1880)

Note: Trichocera subsinuata Alexander, 1916 is often regarded as a synonym, but is probably a separate American species with the valid name Diazosma subsinuatum (see revision by Stary and Martinovsky (1993)).

Note: the genus name is a greek word (meaning belt or girdle) and is neuter. Thus, the species name has to be adjusted to this grammatical gender. The correct spelling is therefore not Diazosma hirtipennis, but Diazosma hirtipenne (see also Stary and Martinovsky (1993)).
