Biology
This species has been reported to breed in dead animals from several groups (e.g. vertebrates, grasshoppers, snails) and under laboratory conditions was reared from beef or various seafood (squid, sea urchin). It was also reared from dung and faeces of several vertebrates and from material from birds nests. Thus, the species appears to have a rather wide spectrum of breeding media, although it appears to prefer faeces.
