The incorrect spelling Chrysopilus alpicolus
is often used by authors
who want to adjust the seemingly feminine
gender of "alpicola" to the
masculine gender of "Chrysopilus". However,
alpicola is not an
adjective meaning "living in the Alps", but it
is a noun meaning
"someone who lives in the Alps" and is,
despite of its female ending
-a, a masculine Latin noun, like silvicola
("someone who lives in the
forest") or cavernicola ("someone who lives in
a cave").
