Pelidnoptera leptiformis




Subspecies
No subspecies are recognized; a monotypic species.

Original description
Schiner, 1864
Schiner IR (1864). Fauna Austriaca. Die Fliegen (Diptera). Volume 2, Wien. p. 43.

The lectotype is a male, deposited with the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien. Type locality is "Schlesien" interpreted as southern Poland. There are also 4 males and 3 females as paralectotypes with different localities.

Lignodesia bellardii Rondani, 1869
Phaeomyia fumipennis Sack, 1939 (nec Zetterstedt, 1846) (a misidentification)


Identification
The size ranges between 7,0 to 9,0 mm.

Distribution
Widely distributed in Central and eastern Europe. Recorded from Poland, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Hungary, Romania, northern Balcans.

Biology
The imagines fly from April to July.
