Rhamphomyia culicina

Subspecies

Original description

Synonyms
Empis rufipes Meigen, 1804 (nec Scopoli, 1763; nec Gmelin, 1790; nec Wiedemann, 1830; nec Fabricius, 1805) (nomen dubium, see note below) (junior homonym)
Rhamphomyia rufipes (Meigen, 1804)
Empis culicina Fallén, 1816
Rhamphomyia culicina (Fallén, 1816)

Note: Empis rufipes Meigen, 1804 is a nomen dubium, and the original description is of insufficient detail; however, all available data suggest that it might be identical with Rhamphomyia culicina or Rhamphomyia caliginosa. Empis rufipes Meigen, 1804 has probably been described from material collected in Germany, and because R. culicina appears to be the commoner species of the two in Germany, I provisionally place E. rufipes in the synonymy of R. culicina. However, I do not regard it as the valid name; it is best viewed as a nomen oblitum.
