Podura aquatica

Subspecies
The species has an almost worldwide
distribution and thus some geographic races
have been described. However, there is no
detailed study of the geographic variability
(morphological, genetic, etc.) and the
substructure of this species is therefore
unclear. Currently, no subspecies are
recognized here.

Achorutes dubius has been described as a
doubtful species ("can it be the young of Podura
aquatica?") by Templeton (1836). I do not know
whether this name has been confidently
identified; the figure in Templeton (1836) looks
somewhat like Podura aquatica and the author
writes that he has found it on water. However,
it was not able to jump and the spiny hairs
shown in the figure of Templeton do not fit with
Podura aquatica.
