Synonyms Mesaphorura krausbaueri Börner, 1901 (p. 2) Mesaphorura krausbaueri krausbaueri Börner, 1901 Stenaphorura krausbaueri (Börner, 1901) Tullbergia krausbaueri (Börner, 1901) Tullbergia krausbaueri krausbaueri (Börner, 1901) Tullbergia krausbaueri inermis Axelson, 1905 (p. 790) Mesaphorura krausbaueri inermis (Axelson, 1905) Tullbergia krausbaueri atypica Denis, 1924 (p. 225) Mesaphorura krausbaueri atypica (Denis, 1924) Tullbergia krausboueri auct. (misspelling) The status of the nominal Tullbergia iowensis Mills, 1932, Mesaphorura baconae Bagnall, 1947, and Mesaphorura krausbaueri bonariensis Rapoport, 1959 is unclear. They are regarded as synonyms of Mesaphorura krausbaueri by some authors, but other authors regard them as separate taxa. Given their distribution in America I accept here the notion that these taxa are separate species Mesaphorura iowensis, Mesaphorura baconae, and Mesaphorura bonariensis. Paratullbergia macdougalli is not a synonym of this species; nevertheless it is sometimes erroneously listed in synonymies. Identification Distribution A Palearctic species and recorded from most countries in this region. Also reported from New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa, but many (if not all) of these records are doubtful, because of possible confusion with other species. Biology Mainly in meadow soils (dry or moist), but also recorded from forests. Only females are recorded with confidence, the males reported in the literature most probably belong to different species.
