Phytoecia scutellata

< Previous    |    Next >

Subspecies
No information has been entered yet.

Synonyms
Phytoecia scutellata (Fabricius, 1792)
Cardoria scutellata (Fabricius, 1792)

Some authors place this species in its own genus Cardoria, while other authors regard Cardoria as a subgenus of Phytoecia. In my opinion, there is currently insufficient evidence for the monophyly of Cardoria and the other subgenera of Phytoecia to warrant their acceptance as separate genera. Therefore, I currently do not split Phytoecia into numerous smaller genera.

Identification
Body length 7-14 mm.

Distribution
This species is recorded from south-eastern Europe. In Germany, there is a restricted population in Hessen which is likely the result of accidental introduction by Man.
