Phytoecia argus

Subspecies
No information has been entered yet.

Synonyms
Phytoecia argus (Froelich, 1793)
Musaria argus (Froelich, 1793)

Some authors place this species in its own genus Musaria, while other authors regard Musaria as a subgenus of Phytoecia. In my opinion, there is currently insufficient evidence for the monophyly of Musaria and the other subgenera of Phytoecia to warrant their acceptance as separate genera. Therefore, I currently do not split Phytoecia into numerous smaller genera.

Identification
Body length 9-21 mm.

Distribution
This species is recorded from south-eastern Europe. In Germany, there is a only a doubtful record from Rheinland-Pfalz, and this record is generally considered to be based on a misidentification.
