Synonyms

Pachytodes cerambyciformes

Identification
Body length 7-11 mm. Coloration of elytra quite variable: ground color pale brownish-yellow, with dark elements. In most cases three (incomplete) dark bands are present: at the tip, in the middle (incomplete towards the wing suture) and near the shoulders (dissolved into dots). In some cases the dark marks can be almost invisible, or even enlarged to form complete bands across the elytra.

Distribution

Biology
The larvae feed within the roots of various trees (birch, oak, horse chestnut, and spruce species). They pupate outside of the roots in small holes in the soil. The species is common at higher altitudes, and seems to prefer mountainous regions in Germany. The imagines can be found during the summer months (June-August). They feed on the flowers of Apiaceae (Umbelliferaceae).
