Trachyzelotes pedestris (C. L. Koch, 1837)

Note: Drassus tibialis is often listed as a nomen nudum and as a synonym of Scotophaeus scutulatus. Both is incorrect. Drassus tibialis has been properly described and figured by Hahn (1833) and is thus no nomen nudum. The figure clearly shows that it is a synonym of Trachyzelotes pedestris: The special feature of Drassus tibialis is the black color of the body that also extends to the femur of all legs. The rest of the legs is orange. This pattern is not seen in Scotophaenus scutulatus, but in Trachyzelotes pedestris and in dark specimens of
Scotophaenus quadripunctatus. The spinnerets in Scotophaenus quadripunctatus are orange, whereas the spinnerets in Trachyzelotes pedestris and in Drassus tibialis are black. Thus, the latter two are here regarded as synonyms. The older name is Drassus tibialis and therefore has priority, but because it has not been used as a valid name it should probably better be regarded as a nomen oblitum.
