Tegenaria silvestris
Wald-Winkelspinne

Subspecies

Original description

Synonyms
Tegenaria silvestris L. Koch, 1872
Malthonica silvestris (L. Koch, 1872)
Textrix silvestris (L. Koch, 1872)
Tegenaria sylvestris auct. (misspelling)
Tegenaria campestris auct. nec
C. L. Koch, 1834 (misidentification)

Note: this species is placed in Malthonica by most authors. However, the analysis by Bolzern et al. 2010 clearly shows that Malthonica and Tegenaria are not monophyletic if both are recognized as separate taxa. I therefore combine both genera under the older name of Tegenaria. For more information on this issue see my comments under Tegenaria ferruginea.

Identification
The body length of females is 6-9 mm, the males are usually smaller: 5-6 mm.

Distribution

Biology
This species is mainly found in the forests of the Mittelgebirge in Germany, where it lives under stones and tree roots, but it can also be encountered in other habitat types. Adults are present from February to October. In Germany the species is quite common.
