HAUPTSEMINAR:
MODERN ENGLISH

Oliver M. Traxel

WS 14/15
Tu 8-10

Room: ÜR 20

Many classes on the history of the English end after the Early Modern English period. However, the English language did not cease to change after the seventeenth century. Even texts written only a few decades ago may exhibit remarkable differences from Present-Day English. This seminar looks at changes in various linguistic categories from the eighteenth century until today. It also covers recent developments like netspeak as a particularly striking example of linguistic innovation.
