ASSESSMENT

Here you find what you need to do in order to pass this course:

HOW TO PREPARE FOR CLASSES

  • If you are scheduled to give a presentation, divide the relevant pages among your fellow speakers, prepare these, and provide a handout for your fellow students. Each speaker should need no more than ten minutes. Most presentations are taken from G. Hughes, A History of English Words (Oxford, 2000).

  • Study the textbook: G. Hughes, A History of English Words (Oxford, 2000). Prepare the relevant pages, and note all problems and arising questions for discussion in class. There is also a separate booklet with further texts and exercises available at the Seminar Library which you must copy before the seminar starts. You are expected to do regular homework with the help of OED on-line throughout the semester.

  • ASSESSMENT FACTORS

  • Piece of coursework to be handed in by 14 October 2005 (contents to be discussed in final session on 18 July 2005).

  • Regular participation and preparation as well as commitment in class. This may be taken into account when calculating the final mark.
