Semantics is the study of linguistic meaning, comprising both word and sentence meaning. This course offers an introduction to the theory and practice of semantics in modern linguistics. It covers some of the most important theories of the field and discusses basic concepts, such as lexical relations, semantic fields, prototypes, entailment and presupposition, thematic roles, as well as change of meaning.

Requirements: regular attendance, active participation, participation in group work and a group presentation, and written term paper (8 pages).
