HAUPTSEMINAR:
FUNCTIONAL GRAMMAR

Oliver M. Traxel

SS 14
Wd 10-12

Room: ZHG 1.006

The focus of traditional grammar is generally on the structure of language. However, this approach does not pay any attention to the social context of language use and argues for a strict separation between grammar and the lexicon. In this seminar we will deal with a linguistic theory known as Functional Grammar which puts less emphasis on the distinction between langue and parole but rather stresses the role that language plays in order to assist meaning. Some aspects covered are clause complexes, nominal and verbal groups as well as process and participant.
