The name has been coined by Gmelin for an unnamed species (Cimex no. 118) in the Museum Leskeanum (Zschach, 1788). The diagnosis reads "C.[imex] pallidus, coleoptris fenestratis: nervis pallide rufis". Dolling (2006) suggests that this name may refer to a species of Stictopleurus. If so, then the only German species with obvious pale red veins in the hemielytra is the present species. Thus, I provisionally place this name as a doubtful synonym in the synonymy of Stictopleurus abutilon.
