Note: the species-group-name claripennis has been used twice by Robineau-Desvoidy, in the genus Scatina and in the genus Scatophaga. Apparently he regarded these taxa as two separate species. Both taxa are doubtful taxa (nomina dubia), but the "claripennis" in Scatina has been synonymized with the present species by Sifner (2008). The identity of the "claripennis" taxon in Scatophaga remains unclear.

Note: the taxa nigricans, limbata, semiatra, and pubescens (sensu Szilady) are doubtful taxa, but are included in the synonymy of the present species by Sifner (2008); I adopt these tentative synonymies here.
