This is a common species in Germany and can be found in a wide variety of habitats. The imagines feed on a vast variety of deciduous trees and bushes, and there does not seem to be any preferred food plant. The larvae live in the soil and feed on many sorts of roots, mainly grass roots. The larvae pupate in the ground in early spring and the first imagines eclose in late April. There is apparently only a single generation, with a maximum in late May and June. The females deposit their eggs in the soil, the larvae hatch during the summer months and overwinter.
