The taxon Sitticus penicillatus adriaticus Kolosvary, 1938 has been described as a valid subspecies from Croatia. However, Breitling et al. 2016 regard this taxon as a nomen dubium that cannot be identified, but is certainly not conspecific with the present species.Therefore I do not accept it as a subspecies and also do not list it as a synonym.
