Synonyms
Philaeus superciliosus Bertkau (in Foerster et Bertkau), 1883

The taxon superciliosus has been an enigmatic species since its description in 1883. Breitling et al. 2016 have finally presented a plausible identity for this taxon and have synonymized it with the tropical species Sandalodes superbus.

Distribution
This is a tropical species distributed in Australia, Tasmania and Papua New Guinea. It has been reported from Germany (from the Aachen area) under the name of Philaeus superciliosus in 1883, but has not been reported again since the first find. Breitling et al. 2016 suggest that the single specimen from the Aachen area was an accidental introduction with imported dyewood that was used at the time in the region by textile factories.
