Fresh PhD graduates climb Gaenseliesel

It is an old tradition in Goettingen: graduates climb onto a fountain to give a kiss and flowers to Gaenseliesel, while they are are targeted by water bombs tossed by cheering audience. Doctores grab bombs that have not bursted and throw them back into the audience and chemists pour liquid nitrogen into the fountain. Then graduates change into dry clothes and everyone is ready for a party.

Muna (Dr. Abdalla) did her experimentel work in the Institute for Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry under Prof. Laatsch's supervision but she graduated in our faculty.

Nayuf Valdez (2010)

Karlovsky lab: Nayuf kissing Adam

Nayuf (Dr. Valdez) actually graduated in Hamburg, though she has been with us since August 2007. The ceremony was held in March in Hamburg. They have Adam rather than Gaenseliesel and the supervisor himself has to pull a cart with the graduate from the institute up to the statue. Nayuf will not leave our institute yet and she promissed to pay tribute to Ganeseliesel, too.

Pilip's (Dr. Kössler's) hat was so marvellous that we had to show it in the inlet.

The guy on the right picture is Richard (Dr. Splivallo) who graduated in Turin before coming to Goettingen. He just wanted to make the Gaenseliesel experience. Have you noticed his small hat? A journalist watching the scene asked Richard why his hat was so small and Richard answered - I hope it went into a published news - that his hat was small because he was Hernan's assistant.
