Edilberto left the lab
Edilberto Montenegro is a Panama native finishing his PhD studies at the University of Costa Rica in San Jose. Edilberto joined our lab to perform Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis of soil microflora of banana plantations. DGGE of amplified ribosomal RNA genes or their parts, which in our lab is Anke's speciality, is suitable for the investigation of complex microbial populations, particularly those rich in species that cannot be cultured in the lab. Edilberto's task was to find out whether the composition of microbial populations in soil can explain differences in the suppressivity toward nematodes parasiting banana plants.
